Why is the Magazine called REED?
REED = READ
REED is a playful nod to the word read—because stories matter. Just as reading helps us understand the world and imagine new possibilities, REED is a place to share voices, ideas, and creativity. Through stories of resilience, hope, and imagination, REED invites readers of all ages to read deeply, think boldly, and help shape a better future.
The name REED comes from a simple plant that grows near water — but it’s more powerful than it looks!
In Taoism, people say, “The green reed which bends in the wind is unbreakable in a storm.” Reeds are strong because they bend and don’t break — just like people who stay calm and flexible.
In Hinduism, reed grass stands for the womb, a space of growth and transformation.
In Tibetan Buddhism, there's a beautiful reed instrument called the Gyaling. Its sound is thought to be like the voice of the divine.
In many ancient stories, reeds are found in magical places. They are symbols of wisdom, change, and new beginnings.
Reeds are also used to make musical instruments, and when the wind blows through them, they sing — just like the stories and voices we share in this magazine!
Reeds are flexible and strong, and they’re useful too — in building, crafting, and even as fuel. They’re a powerful symbol of creativity, resilience, and the many ways nature supports us.
