About the event

Stay tuned for The Interactive Poetry Garden at The Reservoir and Parks!

A special collaboration with poet and educator - Melida Rodas the City of Jersey City Department of Parks and Recreation, the Youth Advisory Board from McNair High School, and students from local elementary schools.

"As a teacher and Poet Laureate, I believe poetry belongs in the spaces where life unfolds—along walking paths, beneath open skies, and in the quiet corners of our parks. Poetry has the power to nourish the soul and spark wonder in unexpected moments. A single line encountered while passing through can invite reflection, curiosity, and connection.

Through this initiative, the voices of our youth and our community will become part of the landscape of The Reservoir. These public poetry displays will live both in the physical space, in braille for the visually impaired , and through digital elements that deepen engagement with visitors. Together, we are creating an interactive magazine rooted in place, "REED"—one that strengthens connections between people and the land and communities they are part of.

Passers by will be able to scan a QR code which allows for more content and encourages their own submissions.

By merging technology with the arts and the environment, The Interactive Poetry Garden will elevate diverse voices through accessible, community-driven publication while building a dynamic archive that grows with each new visitor and poet. My hope is that every walk through the park becomes an encounter with art, culture, and shared imagination."
